Belated Happy New Year

Happy New Year to you all!

I would like to say, “let’s hope it’s better than last year” but it hasn’t got off to a great start! Usually, I head down to my parents for a few days around Christmas and New Year, and that acts as a sort of reset for the New Year ahead, but that didn’t happen this time, so it feels like 2020 is just dragging on into 2021.

That said, I am trying to be optimistic that this year will be a good one! In that spirit, I have decided to make a life change and commit more of my time towards my artwork. Trying to balance my time between my car art and all the other work I want to make was just too difficult; I wasn’t dedicating enough time to either and had become stuck in a rut with both. I tried various different things over the years to work on both and I discovered that when I put more time into my other artwork, it did start to progress. However, at some point (usually in the run up to Christmas!) the car art always took priority because it gave me a more steady income. This has been the pattern for a few years now - in fact I’ve written about it on this blog for the last two years - and I’m sure this pattern would continue until I was withered and old, thinking about all the projects I didn’t get around to doing.

So I’m going to take the advice of Stephen King and Seth Godin (and probably countless others too): commit to my art, put in the hours to perfect my craft and at some point, something good will come out of it. Or it may all go wrong and in a few years I’ll be working in the only viable job left… an Amazon delivery driver. But, as various “insta-inspiration” posts say… “to not try is to never know”.
